Health and Nutrition Training Module with Food Basket Support (Based on the MIDAS Project)



This training module is designed to educate participants on essential health and nutrition practices while integrating a Food Basket Program Based on the MIDAS Project model, which supports sustainable agriculture and provides access to nutritious, locally-sourced farm produce.


Module 1: Introduction to Health and Nutrition

  • Overview of balanced diets and their importance for different age groups

  • Understanding macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals)

  • The role of nutrition in preventing lifestyle disorders (obesity, diabetes, heart disease)

Module 2: Importance of Sustainable Agriculture in Nutrition

  • How locally grown, seasonal, and organic produce impacts health

  • The MIDAS model’s role in supplying fresh produce directly from farmers to consumers

  • The concept of "farm-to-table" and how it supports both nutrition and rural economies


Module 3: Customized Food Basket Program

  • Overview of the Food Basket Program: weekly supply of farm-fresh produce

  • How the program is personalized based on dietary needs (calorie intake, specific health goals)

  • Food baskets designed for various groups: families, individuals with specific health conditions, children, and elderly


Module 4: Nutrition for Specific Lifestyles

  • Diet recommendations for different professions: sedentary (IT jobs), physically demanding (labor), mental stress (executive roles)

  • Nutrition for different life stages: pregnant women, growing children, elderly

  • Special focus on preventing common disorders (obesity, piles, depression) through dietary interventions


Module 5: Planning a Balanced Meal

  • How to prepare balanced meals using the produce from the food basket

  • Importance of portion control, meal timing, and hydration

  • Cooking techniques to preserve nutrients (steaming, grilling vs. frying)


Module 6: Preventive Health through Food Choices

  • Identifying foods that prevent chronic illnesses (e.g., high-fiber foods, healthy fats)

  • The role of superfoods (e.g., turmeric, spinach, millets) in promoting immunity and wellness

  • Dietary adjustments to manage common conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and digestion issues


Module 7: Enhancing Family Health with Weekly Food Baskets

  • How to plan family meals using the weekly food basket for optimal nutrition

  • Integrating food basket produce with local staple diets (e.g., roti, rice, pulses)

  • Encouraging children and adults to consume a diverse range of vegetables and fruits


Module 8: Monitoring Progress and Feedback

  • Regular monitoring of participants’ health parameters (weight, blood pressure, sugar levels)

  • Feedback from beneficiaries to refine the food basket content and delivery model

  • Utilizing mobile-based platforms for food basket orders and health advice (as part of the MIDAS project)

  • Awareness of nutrition and health schemes (Poshan Abhiyaan, ICDS) that can complement the food basket program
